Frequently Asked Questions [insert photo top right]
If you can't find the information you need, please call 843-530-5164.
Is there a rain date?
The tours are held on the scheduled Friday or Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 rain or shine.
How do I find out about hotel accommodations in Charleston?
You might check out the following sites.

www.charlestoncvb.com/ www.ci.charleston.sc.us/
What's the weather like at that time of the year?
Charleston is always beautiful, but March and April have got to be our best months.
Be prepared for temperatures in the 60 - 70's. But don't be shocked if it's in the 80's. And
the most important thing to remember - it's humid!
What should I wear?
First of all, dress for warm, humid weather. Please do not wear high heels; wear comfortable walking shoes. Streets and sidewalks are often uneven because they are slate, brick or cobblestone. No backpacks, coolers or strollers please!
Can I take photographs?
Because these are private residences, no photographs are allowed inside the houses. You may photograph the gardens.
Are these the same type of houses that are on the big fall and spring tours?
Yes. These are downtown, historic homes. Many of these are the same houses that are regularly on other tours. Homeowners graciously open their homes so that we may raise money. Our tours are special because each home will have beautiful flower arrangements designed by members of The Garden Club of Charleston.
What do you do with the money you collect?
The Garden Club of Charleston is involved in many endeavors. Some of our projects are:
We maintain the historic gardens of two houses for The Charleston Museum. Our garden club designated The Joseph Manigault House Garden (350 Meeting Street) as a Project for Restoration in 1947 and have maintained it since the garden was open to the public in 1949. We have maintained The Heyward Washington Garden (87 Church Street) since 1941.
The Gateway Walk was opened in April 1930. It was named for the ten wrought iron gates along its length of four city blocks. Our club was awarded the Kellogg Medal for Civic Achievement in 1954, the Exxon Award for Civic Development in 1996. The walk begins on Archdale Street.
Our club sponsors The Medical University of South Carolina Psychiatric Center's Healing Garden. This garden was started in 1997 and has grown over the years. A number of different programs now work regularly in the gardens, including addictions, general adult psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, youth psychiatry and eating disorders.
How many homes and gardens are on the tour?
There are usually more than 6 stops on the tour.
Are there other sites to help me plan my vacation?

What is the deadline to purchase tickets?
We will sell tickets up to and including the day of the tours; however, we do limit the number of tickets that we sell to 500 per tour. Once we reach that number, we no longer sell tickets. (Last year was a sell-out!) On the day before the tour and the day of the tour, you may purchase tickets at the Charleston Visitors Center from 10:00 A. M. to1:00 P. M. if tickets are available.
Are homes handicap accessable?
Since these historic homes are private residences, they are not handicap accessible.
Are children allowed on this tour?
This is a very difficult tour for children. We try to arrange for the houses to be close together; however, this is not always possible. Also, there are no public restrooms available in the homes. Therefore, children under 12 are not allowed on the tour.
Are there any discounts available?
We are pleased to offer new group rates for groups of 10 or more. Please call for more information
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept credit cards. There will be a $2.00 processing fee. Please call to place those orders. We accept checks or money orders. American dollars only, please. Click here for form to place an order.
